Fruit Coolattas

A Coolatta is a frozen drink served at Dunkin' Donuts stores since 1997.  Coolattas can be made with coffee and cream (see sidebar for recipes) or with fruit juice.  The following flavors are now available:

  • Berry Blast which offer the taste of raspberry and pomegranate.
  • Raspberry Lime is just like it sounds with a mix of lime and raspberry flavors.
  • Minute Maid Orange Juice features the familiar taste of frozen minute maid orange juice.
  • Strawberry Lemonade has Minute Maid lemonade mixed with strawberries.
A Coolatta is basically a Slurpee so here is the basic recipe.

Makes 2 Drinks

2 cups club soda, chilled
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon Kool aid powdered drink mix
1/2 teaspoon fruit juice
2 1/2 cups crushed ice

Combine 1 cup of club soda, sugar, powder and the juice in a blender until completely mixed.
Add the crushed ice and process until blended smooth. If necessary, put the blender into your freezer for 1/2 hour. This will help thicken it. After 1/2 hour remove blender from freezer and, again, blend briefly to mix.

Notes:  You may want to substitute real fruit juice instead of the club soda.  This is one to experiment with to get the flavor that you like.
